DC fast charging can significantly reduce charging time. BEE gives the example of a 30-kWh electric car reaching 80% in less than an hour with a 50-kW fast charger. The US Department of Energy says DC fast charging can add roughly 100 to 200-plus miles of range in 30 minutes, although results vary between vehicles and chargers.

Charging from around 10% to 80% is often more practical than charging to 100% during a road trip. The reason is simple: charging power generally falls as the battery approaches a high state of charge. This makes the final 20% slower than the earlier portion.
