Hyundai is developing a new subcompact electric SUV for the Indian market, internally codenamed HE1i. The A-segment electric SUV is expected to launch in India in the fourth quarter of 2026, with production planned at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, facility.

Recent spy photographs offer a closer look at the cabin and suggest that the upcoming EV could feature Hyundai’s new-generation Pleos Connect infotainment system. The test vehicle also appeared to feature sequential turn indicators. However, these features may not necessarily make it to the production-spec India-bound model.

Pleos Connect and ADAS

Hyundai previously confirmed that the India-specific EV will receive a new-generation infotainment system and Level 2 assisted driving technology. While the company has not officially confirmed Pleos Connect for the HE1i, similarities visible in the spy shots suggest that the system could make its way into the production model.

Pleos Connect is Hyundai Motor Group’s digital infotainment platform based on Android Automotive OS. It supports a smartphone-like interface, apps, multi-window functionality, AI-enabled voice control, and over-the-air updates. The system also includes Pleos ID, a unified user profile designed to personalize the cabin experience.

Expected Battery and Range

The Hyundai HE1i is expected to use the E-GMP (K) architecture, also used by the global Hyundai Ioniq 5. Reports suggest that standard-range and long-range versions are planned, with battery capacity expected to range between 42 kWh and 51 kWh.

The expected range stands at around 450 km on a single charge, although these figures remain preliminary and require confirmation from Hyundai.

Expected Features and Price

The EV could feature wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, front-seat ventilation and a sunroof. A 360-degree camera and additional airbags could also be available, although these remain unverified.

The expected price is around Rs. 10 lakh and above, with recent reports suggesting an estimated entry-level price of Rs. 10-12 lakh, depending on battery size, localization, and variants.

The Hyundai HE1i is expected to compete with the Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, and Kia Syros EV.
