Robotics, Automation and the Future of Jobs

Robotics is changing the dynamics of the workforce in every industry. Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and big data has taken the market upside down and brought more potential alternatives for human workforce thereby putting the employment sector in hot water. But considering the fact that we are all headed towards digitization, technological transformation, it only sounds right that we adopt more and more ways to replace the human resource with technology and in this case robots. However, one cannot deny the chaos due to our choices in the employment industry.

There can be many factors that govern our decisions. According to a survey, 39% of the legal jobs are going to be automated. Artificial intelligence and robotics are bringing a boom and luring every next industry to opt for automation. However, the same survey brings too bad a news for accountants who are supposed to lose their jobs in a measure of 95%. But, is it only the professional workers losing?  The answer to that question is a big NO. Robots have long back started displacing the manual labors and clerks and technology is now eating up the professional jobs rapidly.

The Contradiction

When some CEOs believe one must wash their hands in the flowing river and jump on the robotic boat, others feel that even if the automation grabs the persistent jobs it will simultaneously create some. Management and servicing of the machines is something that can only be accomplished by humans, at least as of now. When the world is evolving at a pace so fast, it is inevitable for the businesses around to not match up. But this matching up is paying a huge price, costing people their jobs.

Even though some management jobs are created but the bigger question comes for the skilled jobs that got an unwanted and untimely replacement.

The So-Called Solution

When we talk about job replacement, one can always suggest the expected solution that human workforce can be trained to get skilled and fit the robotics industry. But what we fail to acknowledge is this solution has recurring cost, costs that no industry would want to rely upon and that too when they are already spending on automation.

Reducing Options

The encroachment by technology has reduced the fulcrum of vacancies of jobs. Now, when robots do almost all the work the market demands only for more skilled professionals. This is straight away killing the primary level of jobs. In another world, it has already started to take a bite of the professional pie also.

Expert Level of Machines

Many believe that when it comes to common sense and creative work, robotics are defeated by humans. Even at planning, we are short of automation pouring in. Well, this is just a drop in the ocean. It won't be long before every possible job gets replaced by robots. It is also argued that the more technical the work the more technology can accomplish it. And, in this era of technology, this phrase works perfectly to the benefit of the businesses.

It cannot be denied that technology plays a crucial role in our lives now. And, with the advent of robotics and artificial intelligence, the world has just got easier. However, it also cannot be denied that a huge back-end cost is being paid for this to happen which until now is at the primary level but won't be long when it comes to secondary and tertiary level thereby replacing every possible job. The only way out is to strike a balance between robotics and human resource.
