For Gboard, Google's first Android keyboard option, several new generative AI-based capabilities are in the works. Google disclosed its plans to include several generative AI tools at the I/O 2023 developer conference. According to reports, the IT giant is developing a new Gboard function.
This new option will appear on the Android beta version of Gboard, starting with version 13.4. The toolbar on the keyboard will display the most recent selection. Users can use this AI-powered service to get their content proofread for spelling and grammar mistakes.
9to5Google claims that this function first emerged on the Pixel Fold with a "Fix it" prompt that also displayed Google's standard icon for generative AI. When users enable the feature, the text is transferred to Google for processing, as explained in the pop-up that appears when they click the choice.
The "Proofread" function in Gboard's toolbar processes the text as users tap it, provides recommendations to correct spelling and grammar, and even adds punctuation. When users tap the "Fix it" button, it will display in line with suggestions and instantly correct problems. Also, the study contains screenshots that demonstrate how the AI-based writing tool will function. This device might work well in place of the current autocorrect function.
Also, according to the source, Google is creating new AI-based Gboard capabilities. It features an AI-powered sticker-making function and a new "tone" feature that enables users to rewrite messages in a different tone.
