It is difficult to trace a creator of deepfakes or even pin a crime on the individual and get them punished. Even AI technology is improving so fast that legal frameworks must almost continuously evolve in response.
Apart from this legalistic approach, some remedial measures are coming up on the technological front to curtail the misuse of deepfakes. Tools capable of identifying digital alterations with the help of AI are being developed to authenticate content in images, videos, and audio. Such tools are vital steps to rescue the integrity of any digital media from the destructive ability of deepfakes.
Educating the public on the existence and potential dangers of deepfakes is also critical. Media literacy programs will allow individuals to recognize deepfake content and understand the implications of such use. Promoting critical thinking and digital literacy in society will be a byproduct that makes society more resilient against the threats presented by deepfakes.
The explicit AI deepfakes raise fundamental legal and ethical issues that require a multifaceted response. Technological solutions and public education to the strategy in the process, besides legal framework provisions regarding misuse of deepfakes. Since AI technology would move ahead from this time point only, thus currently it is the time for a human society to wake itself from the threat it harbors in deepfakes to make an advantage out of its benefits, not letting any evil factor overshadow it from this one or the other point.
