Google has started rolling out Android 17, making it much easier for iPhone users to switch to Android. The new Android Switch feature lets users move more personal data during phone setup without installing another app.

The update is now available on supported Pixel phones and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 devices. Google said more Android phones will receive the feature later.

The new transfer tool copies much more than photos and contacts. It now moves Google Account details, passwords, passkeys, WiFi settings, eSIM information, messages, call history, alarms, notes, files, and some app data through a wireless connection. Users only need to scan a QR code to connect both phones and choose the data they want to transfer.

Google said, "We worked with Apple to overhaul the iOS to Android transfer process to ensure your data moves with you." The company added that messages, passwords, favorite apps, home screen layout, and eSIM details can now move directly to a new Android phone.

The transfer starts while setting up a new Android device. After selecting the option to copy data from an iPhone or iPad, the Android phone creates a QR code. Scanning the code connects both devices and begins the wireless transfer.

Google recommends keeping both phones connected to WiFi, charging them before starting, and making sure enough storage is available on the new phone.

Some information still needs to move separately. iCloud-only photos, Safari bookmarks, Apple Health data, and paid iPhone apps do not transfer automatically. Android 17 also helps users move WhatsApp chats, switch from iMessage to Google Messages, and transfer iCloud Photos to Google Photos, making the overall switching process much smoother.
