YouTube has revealed its biggest update on the streaming platform, which takes Live streaming, AI tools, and monetization framework to a whole new level. At its annual Made on YouTube 2025 event, the entertainment platform announced its reshaping strategies regarding how creators may produce, monetize, and interact with their audience. 

Among the highlights, simultaneous vertical and horizontal streaming, AI-generated highlights for Shorts, and new ad formats have received the most attention. Apart from these, YouTube Studio is getting more tools, and creators will enjoy more flexible sponsorship integrations. 

What are the New Features Coming?

The new update is one of the most ambitious leaps that YouTube has taken in recent times. According to the announcement, updates span AI-driven editing, new tools in YouTube Studio, live-streaming enhancements, and expanded monetization options for creators. 

During live streaming, creators will be able to broadcast their stream in both vertical and horizontal layouts simultaneously. This will ensure that the audience can choose their preferred format without any compromise. To make it more engaging, the platform has introduced a practice mode. Streamers can rehearse before they go live. 

Artificial Intelligence is the major highlight in the update. After it goes live, AI-powered highlights will identify the key moments from a stream automatically and transform them into Shorts. 

Additionally, the live streams will have a Playables option. This interactive feature will bring lightweight games and quizzes to keep audiences engaged in real time. Finally, the monetization strategy is also getting a makeover. YouTube is experimenting with side-by-side ads for revenue to reduce interruptions during livestreams. The sponsorship and product tagging will be more flexible to strengthen brand collaborations.

What do These Changes Mean for Creators?

Before the latest update, there were restrictions. Streamers used to struggle choosing between vertical and horizontal formats, which makes the content less adaptable for different devices. YouTube Shorts were once a completely manual task. Creators have to select the key moments themselves and edit them manually.

Running ads during livestreams often reduces the viewer count, which can ultimately impact monetization. With flexible brand collaboration, this issue will probably be resolved. 

Addressing these challenges will make creators, especially new creators, hugely profitable. With small teams now, they can scale their reach using the automated features. Monetization will be less troublesome if brand collaborations become more flexible. It will offer more opportunities for product placements and sponsorships.

“YouTube has always been about creators. No studio, network, or AI tool will own the future of entertainment — that power belongs to creators,” YouTube CEO Neal Mohan stated in his keynote address. The latest YouTube livestream makeover hints at the platform’s intent to combine AI efficiency with creator empowerment. 

The CEO further emphasized their intent, saying, “As we look ahead, we remain committed to empowering creators, fostering community, and redefining how the world watches, listens, and connects.” The new strategic shift will simplify content creation, but success still depends on the creativity and skills of creators. They have to balance automation with originality.
