Sony has officially introduced PS5 game cloud streaming on its newly launched PlayStation Portal, marking a significant leap in handheld gaming technology. With the addition of cloud streaming, users can now remotely access their PS5 game library, even when their console is unavailable or offline. This feature, available in beta for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, expands the PlayStation ecosystem, making gaming more accessible and versatile.
The PlayStation Portal is Sony's innovative handheld gaming device, designed primarily for remote play. However, the beta release of cloud streaming adds a new dimension to its capabilities. With this feature, users can stream select PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog directly to their device, bypassing the need for an active PS5 console.
To participate in the Cloud Streaming Beta, users will need the following:
- A PlayStation Portal remote player
- An active PlayStation Network account
- A PlayStation Plus Premium membership
- Broadband internet with at least 5 Mbps for basic streaming, 7 Mbps for 720p, or 13 Mbps for 1080p resolution
Once the beta is available, users can enable it by updating their PS Portal to the latest system software. From the "Quick Menu," they can navigate to "Settings" and toggle on the Cloud Streaming (Beta) feature.
The beta version of PS5 cloud streaming will be accessible in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.
Alongside cloud streaming, Sony has released a system software update for the PlayStation Portal to enhance its overall performance. Updates include improved speaker audio adjustments for lower volume settings and expanded settings for PlayStation Link devices, allowing users to fine-tune volume and sidetone preferences directly from the Portal’s menu.
Sony highlighted the streamlined steps to enable cloud streaming:
1. Update the PlayStation Portal to the latest system software.
2. Open the “Quick Menu” and navigate to “Settings.”
3. Activate the Cloud Streaming (Beta) toggle to start streaming PS5 games.
