Solana News Today: Solana Foundation Unveils STRIDE and SIRN to Tighten DeFi Security Standards

Solana Launches STRIDE to Assess DeFi Security and Add Monitoring After the Drift Exploit

The Solana Foundation has launched STRIDE, a new security evaluation program for decentralized finance protocols on Solana. The initiative is being developed with security firm Asymmetric Research and sets out a structured process for reviewing protocol security. The launch follows the April 1 Drift Protocol exploit, which renewed focus on security across Solana DeFi.

STRIDE Sets a New Review Framework for Solana DeFi

STRIDE stands for Solana Trust, Resilience, and Infrastructure for DeFi Enterprises. The program is designed as a continuing security review system rather than a one-time audit or bug bounty. Asymmetric Research will assess participating protocols and publish the findings in a public repository.

The review framework covers eight areas. These include software security, governance and access control, oracle risks, infrastructure security, supply chain security, operational security, incident monitoring and response, and log management and forensics. Asymmetric Research said, “Protocols are independently assessed, and the results are published openly. This ensures genuine transparency for users, investors, and the entire ecosystem regarding the security of interactions with platforms.”

The Solana Foundation said STRIDE version 0.1 is now live. The framework is expected to change over time as more protocols are assessed and more operational data is collected. All Solana-based DeFi protocols can apply to join the program.

TVL Levels Determine Added Support for Protocols

The program includes tiered support based on total value locked, or TVL. Protocols that pass evaluation and hold more than $10 million in TVL will qualify for foundation-funded 24/7 operational security support and threat monitoring. This support is intended to help teams detect suspicious activity faster.

Protocols with more than $100 million in TVL will also qualify for formal verification funded by the Solana Foundation. Formal verification uses mathematical methods to test all possible smart contract execution paths. This process is used to identify risks that standard testing may not catch.

Each participating protocol will receive an independent review and a public report. However, the highest levels of funded support will go to protocols that meet the stated TVL thresholds. The structure links extra security coverage to the size of the protocol and the amount of capital held on the platform.

The Solana Foundation said the program is meant to provide access to security services that many teams may not be able to fund on their own. Public reporting also gives users and investors direct access to protocol evaluation results.

SIRN Adds a Coordinated Incident Response Layer

The Solana Foundation has also launched the Solana Incident Response Network, or SIRN. The network brings together security firms to coordinate responses during active threats and security incidents across the ecosystem.

The founding members are Asymmetric Research, OtterSec, Neodyme, Squads, and Zeroshadow. According to the announcement, SIRN is open to all Solana protocols. Response priority will be based on TVL and the expected scale of the incident.

The network is designed to share threat intelligence, improve coordination, and support faster responses during attacks. The Solana Foundation is funding the coalition, so protocols do not have to pay to participate.

Launch Follows Drift Exploit and Builds on Earlier Security Tools

The launch comes days after the Drift Protocol exploit on April 1. In this incident, attackers drained about $286 million in less than 12 minutes. The case drew fresh attention to the security standards used across DeFi platforms on Solana.

Before STRIDE, the Solana Foundation had already supported several security tools. These include Hypernative for threat detection, Range Security for real-time risk alerts, Riverguard by Neodyme for attack simulation, Sec3 X-Ray for static analysis, and Auditware Radar for template-based issue detection.

The foundation said STRIDE is intended to bring these types of efforts under a broader framework. It also extends structured reviews and funded monitoring to protocols that may not have the same internal resources as larger teams.

The first public STRIDE evaluation reports are expected after participating protocols begin applying to the program.
