Apple launched its first foldable smartphone, iPhone Duo, at the September 9 event, and Samsung quickly took a shot at that. The South Korean tech giant is releasing foldable models since 2019 and, over the years, and launched generations of Galaxy foldable devices.
Now that its toughest competitor joined the race, the company didn’t miss the chance to troll the delay. Samsung Mobile US posted a series of comments on X during Apple’s launch event. One post called the new iPhone ‘so far, so same.’ Another joked that Apple was late to the foldable phone race. Samsung even stated a hashtag saying, “#ItsTimeToSwitch.”
Additionally, mocking the iPhone Duo, Samsung posted, “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers,” which essentially means the Galaxy smartphone makers are calling the iPhone Duo a copy of its foldable models.
Duolingo also jumped into the conversation. Its joke came from the “Duo” name, closely linked to its language-learning app. The company traded playful replies with Samsung and Apple. Samsung Canada joined the fun too, sharing a Galaxy Z Fold 8 video with a message about imitation.
Samsung is making foldable phones since 2019. The company had years to improve the Galaxy Z Fold line. Apple, meanwhile, is entering the market much later. The iPhone Duo could still change the race because Apple has a huge iPhone user base and a strong brand.
Samsung cannot win this fight by simply saying it was first. The Galaxy Z Fold series will need strong hardware and useful features. Better cameras, longer battery life, and a thinner body could help. Software will matter too, especially if Apple makes the Duo easy for regular iPhone users to understand.

Samsung still offers the experience. Apple now commands the attention. The next few years could decide whether Samsung keeps its lead or Apple turns foldables into a much bigger part of the iPhone business.
