The new feature differs from a typical chatbot application, where users ask questions and receive immediate answers. Instead, it is designed to simulate an intensive study and review session with a professor.
The purpose of this feature is clear: it aims to assist users in learning, developing effective study routines, maintaining focus, and exploring their areas of study in greater depth.
Although OpenAI has not yet disclosed the way the feature operates, early users mention that ‘Study Together’ builds a structured learning session. It is selected by users (subject), and then the objective is stated (e.g., complete a chapter or complete problems). ChatGPT organizes the session with the help of timers, prompting, mini-quizzes, and breaks.
The feature is being referred to as ‘Pomodoro with purpose,’ a nod to the popular time management technique, but this one is AI-powered with smart feedback.
There is also a speculation that multi-user sessions will be the next step. It will allow friends or classmates to study together simultaneously in the same AI-driven space. Interestingly, ‘Study Together’ is a solitary but ordered experience for the time being.
