Lexar unveiled the Muse Ultra Slim Portable SSD at IFA 2026 in Berlin on September 4. The company claims the device is the world’s thinnest portable SSD. Lexar designed Muse for mobile creators seeking compact storage for high-resolution video workflows. The drive reaches 3.8mm at its thickest point and tapers to 1mm along the edges.
Lexar achieves the slim profile through a one-piece metal body and magnetic PogoPin connection. The design removes the conventional USB-C port from the drive itself. A SnapLink magnetic cable connects Muse with USB-C devices using N52 neodymium magnets. The drive weighs around 26.5 grams and supports 512GB and 1TB capacities.
Muse delivers read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds reaching 1,000MB/s. The portable SSD supports iPhone 15 and later models, iPad, Mac, and other USB-C devices. Compatible iPhones can record Apple ProRes 4K video at up to 120fps directly to the drive.
A magnetic sleeve also lets Muse attach to compatible MagSafe iPhones for mobile recording setups. The approach targets creators who need external storage without adding significant bulk during filming. Lexar plans to launch Muse globally during the fourth quarter of 2026, while pricing remains unconfirmed.
Lexar also showcased its AI Storage Core at IFA 2026 alongside Muse. The platform combines Gen5 storage hardware with Luma Bridge software for local AI workloads. Lexar expects transfer speeds of up to 11GB/s for its next-generation AI storage products.
The Muse stands out mainly through its ultra-thin design rather than record-breaking speed. Its proprietary SnapLink connection also creates a trade-off against conventional portable SSDs with universal USB-C ports.
