Apple's first foldable iPhone is rumored to come with a vapor chamber cooling system. This feature is usually seen in high-end Android and gaming-focused smartphones. The latest claim from Chinese tipster Fixed Focus Digital mentions that this feature is an effort by the company to improve the phone’s heat management. Although Apple has not confirmed the news.
Smartphones produce heat when performing intense operations like gaming, video recording, and editing. In case of overheating, the CPU may reduce performance to regulate temperature.
Vapor chamber helps distribute the heat more evenly within the phone and increases its ability to operate at maximum capacity. While it has been widely adopted in high-end Android smartphones, Apple has been using other cooling solutions until recently.
The latest report suggests that the company’s foldable iPhone may adorn an ultra-thin profile with 4.5mm thickness when expanded.
It wouldn’t be an easy feat for Apple to fit a vapor chamber inside such a thin profile. It's difficult to fit parts within foldable devices with hinges, battery, and two displays occupying space.
Previous reports claim that Apple would have to get rid of some hardware to make more room. For example, Face ID, MagSafe, and some camera hardware.
The smartphone may have a book-like folding mechanism with an internal screen of approximately 7.8 inches, and an external screen of 5.5 inches.
In addition, it is likely that the new model will run on the new Apple A20 processor, and Touch ID on the power button. This iPhone is expected to be the most expensive product priced at approximately $2,000.
