Apple is set to enter the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Ultra, which is expected to be unveiled on September 9. The device is likely to open like a book and feature a wider, shorter design. It could also be Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet, with a reported price of more than USD 2,400, or approximately Rs. 2,26,777.
Apple has confirmed its ‘Surprise and Shine’ event for September 9. The event will be held in person and livestreamed online, beginning at 10:30 pm IST. While Apple has not confirmed the iPhone Ultra's existence, expectations are high for its debut.
The launch would mark Apple’s entry into an entirely new product category for the first time in a decade.
The iPhone Ultra could resemble Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 8, with a short and squat profile that may make it easier to carry. It is expected to feature a 16:10 cover screen and a 4:3 inner display.
The device could measure 4.5 mm in thickness when fully open, making it the lightest and thinnest iPhone ever. Its main display is expected to measure 7.8 inches, while the folded device could have a screen of around 5.5 inches.
The iPhone Ultra is expected to run iOS 27, with software optimizations tailored to its foldable form. These could include angle-based display modes, improved app adaptation and the ability to run two apps side by side.

The device is expected to use Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm manufacturing process. It could offer up to 15 percent more performance and 30 percent greater efficiency than the A19 Pro.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the iPhone Ultra to cost between USD 2,400 and USD 2,500 for the base model, while the top-end version could cross USD 3,000.
The device may initially launch in limited quantities and only in a few markets. The visibility of the crease and long-term durability remain unanswered questions. The report notes that these aspects can only be properly assessed after hands-on use and review.
