Apple could enter the foldable smartphone market with a device priced firmly in premium territory. A new TrendForce estimate puts the starting price of the company’s first foldable iPhone at USD 2,099 to USD 2,299 in the US. Higher-end variants could reportedly cross the USD 3,000 mark.
The reported pricing would make the device the most expensive iPhone Apple has launched. However, Apple has yet to confirm the product’s name, specifications or price.
Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable smartphone at its September 9 event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Reports suggest Apple could market the device as the iPhone Ultra, although the company has not confirmed the branding.
The launch would mark Apple’s first major move into a smartphone category that rivals such as Samsung have developed for several years.
Supply could remain tight initially. Reports indicate that Apple has faced engineering and production challenges involving the foldable display and hinge.
The foldable iPhone is expected to use a book-style design. Rumours point to a 7.8-inch internal display and a smaller external screen for conventional smartphone use. Apple could also use ultra-thin glass and a sophisticated hinge system to reduce the visible crease.
Other reported specifications include 12GB of RAM, storage options extending to 1TB, and a dual-camera setup. The phone could also replace Face ID with Touch ID integrated into the power button. However, the tech giant is yet to make any official announcement.
