Apple broke its silence on the iPhone Duo’s cracking-screen controversy. The company confirmed that a small number of its new foldable phones have developed cracks on the inner display, mostly near the hinge.
The admission came after early buyers posted images of damaged screens on social media. Several users reported cracks, display lines and hinge-related faults within hours or days of unboxing the device.
According to reports, Apple said the problem does not affect most iPhone Duo units. It added that affected devices usually show the fault early in use. Apple said in a statement, “We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units.”
Apple explained in a statement that it was aware of the issue. “If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.” However, the tech giant did not disclose how many devices were affected or explain the cause of the cracking. It also did not say whether it planned a wider repair program.
Affected owners do not need an AppleCare+ subscription to seek a replacement. Customers who bought the phone through a carrier should contact AppleCare directly rather than approach the carrier.
The issue is an early setback for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The iPhone Duo has drawn strong initial interest, but the screen complaints have raised questions about hinge durability and quality control. Reports suggest the damage often appears along the central hinge. Some users described a stuck hinge or a popping sound before the display cracked.
Apple added, “Most iPhone Duo devices remain unaffected. Still, buyers will watch closely for further details on the scale of the problem and the company’s corrective action.”
Experts suggest that Apple did not confirm a manufacturing defect. The tech giant’s limited statement leaves open whether the fault stems from design, assembly, or component quality.
