Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, is facing early trouble. Several buyers say the inner screen cracked soon after they bought it. The damage shows up along the middle fold.
On October 25th, 2026, 9to5Mac reported that about 10 users have posted about the problem on Reddit. Nobody knows how many phones in total are affected.
Owners say the cracks form along the center of the screen. In some cases, a strip of pixels across the display stays white after the damage. The timing is not the same for everyone. Some screens failed after a short time of use. Others broke while the owner was still setting up the phone.
Apple Store customers have reportedly received replacement phones. People who bought through mobile carriers have had a harder time. One customer said they were told the phone was probably dropped, so they would have to pay for the repair.

One theory points to the hinge. A part inside it may sit slightly out of place and press on the screen. Over time, that pressure could crack the display. This has not been confirmed.
Some users also advise against pressing the center of the inner screen when folding the phone. There is no clear proof that this causes the damage. The company hasn’t shared any official advice. 9to5Mac said it has asked the company for comment.
Ten reports do not prove a widespread defect. The company has likely shipped many phones, so these cases may be a small share of all sales.
Still, similar failures so soon after release raise fair questions about how long the phone will last. Anyone thinking of buying one may want to wait. More phones will reach buyers in the coming weeks, and Apple's response should make the picture clearer.
