Apple released iOS 27.0.1 on Monday, September 28, for iPhone users following the iOS 27 launch. The update targets early software problems, especially on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. Apple delivers the fixes through Settings > General > Software Update, with Wi-Fi and power recommended during installation.
The first iOS 27.0.1 patch focuses on Face ID failures that could trigger unexpected restarts. Reports linked the problem to failed biometric checks inside protected apps and other secure areas.
Apple also fixes a camera issue that could create color artifacts in 2x photos under specific lighting conditions. The update additionally addresses touchscreen failures when Notification Center and Control Center opened together.
Apple’s release notes describe the changes as bug fixes for iPhone users. One listed issue says iPhone 18 Pro models “may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate.” The fix targets a problem that could leave the device frozen before returning users to the lock screen.
The Face ID problem gained attention soon after the latest Pro models reached users. The iPhone 18 Pro lineup introduced a redesigned Face ID setup with an infrared camera placed behind the display. The change also allows a shorter Dynamic Island by moving the component closer to the status bar.
Camera performance receives another targeted correction in the same release. Apple says a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices could show an unexpected color artifact in photos. The issue appeared with 2x capture, f/1.48 aperture, and certain lighting conditions.
The touchscreen fix covers a broader interaction problem within iOS 27. Opening Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously could make touch input stop responding. iOS 27.0.1 addresses that behavior without adding a major new feature set.
Older iPhone models may also gain smaller bug fixes or background improvements through the update. Apple’s release notes do not always list every minor change in incremental software releases.
The update is available through Settings > General > Software Update on compatible iPhone models. Users can install iOS 27.0.1 while connected to Wi-Fi and a power source.
