Instagram faced a widespread outage on March 11, with thousands of users reporting issues accessing the Meta-owned social media platform. Many users report experiencing problems with login, feeds, and messaging features. According to Downdetector, reports of the outage in India started surfacing around 8:00 AM. Most complained about the messaging feature on Instagram.

What Users are Reporting

Meta-owned Instagram is currently experiencing a massive global outage, including in India. On Downdetector, an online outage monitoring platform, more than 10,000 users in the US have reported problems with the social media platform. Around 520 reports have been logged in India so far. Most complaints appear to be related to the mobile app.

Data from Downdetector shows that about 78 per cent of users are facing issues with the app, 13 per cent reported problems with the website, and the remaining 10 percent claimed they were experiencing server connection errors.

Response from Users

Frustrated users turned to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences. One user shared, ‘Everybody running to Twitter to see if Instagram DMs are down’, while another posted, ‘Instagram dms down the one time I want to send an important dm like free me.’

One user asked, “are the messages delayed to show???”. Another voice of frustration, saying “also just dms not working for me…”. Many also lamented that they were in conversation when Instagram went down in the middle of 3 different conversations; one person complained. Another noted, “can't reply to messages.”

Yet another quipped how the app's malfunction has given the individual a much-needed out from a conversation. “Instagram went down when my friend started questioning THANK GOD,” the person said.

“My Instagram is acting up, saying it failed to load earlier messages, but nothing is wrong with my internet please fix yalls app,” a person said.

Have There Been Similar Instagram Outages Before?

Instagram experienced widespread service disruptions a month ago. Downdetector reported that Instagram's website was facing the majority of the outage. According to multiple X posts, the website was inaccessible or showing errors such as “Sorry, something went wrong.”

This is the second outage in March for Instagram. On February 5, 2026, Instagram went down, and over 10,108 incidents were reported by users. However, the access was restored soon.

What Users Should Do During an Instagram Outage?

If you are facing disruptions, the problem is likely to be fixed in some time. However, the exact timing remains under wraps. For persistent issues, you can clear the cache and enable/disable Airplane mode on your device. You can also change the internet connection and restart the app to fix the problem.

Closing Note

Instagram is one of the world’s most widely used social media platforms, where millions of people share photos, videos, and stories every day. Meta has not issued any official statement related to the outage. For now, users experiencing issues with Instagram will have to wait until Meta identifies the problem and restores service.
