Instagram has added the 'AI Creator' badge to some profiles and posts, signaling a shift in how the platform handles synthetic content. Meta is making an attempt to clarify the context of the content that users view on the social media platform.
Nonetheless, the tag is not required to create content, and numerous posts or reels exist without correct identification. The feature is now available to a limited number of users and is expected to become more widespread in the coming weeks.
Instagram stated that the new label expands on its existing ‘AI info’ tags, which appear when AI material is submitted or when AI tools are discovered during development.
If a creator decides to activate it, the label will appear in their profile bio and their postings in the Feed, Reels, and Explore areas. However, if a post already has the ‘AI info’ label, that tag will be displayed instead of the ‘AI creator’ label.
The label provides users an idea about the source, allowing them to decide what content they should interact with. It may also help build credibility among viewers if creators are transparent about the use of AI technology.
Meta is trying to give its viewers a better idea of a creator’s overall content style by adding the label to their profile rather than tagging each post separately.
How to Add ‘AI Creator’ Label to Your Profile
Open your Instagram profile.
Tap Edit Profile.
Turn on the AI creator label.
Once enabled, the label will appear in your bio and underneath your username on your posts and reels.

Instagram encourages creators who commonly utilize AI tools to adopt the label. According to an in-app notification, doing so can assist ‘build trust’ with their target audience. However, the feature’s usefulness will be determined by the number of creators who utilize it.
If adoption drops, viewers may struggle to distinguish between user-created and AI-generated content. Instagram may eventually require stronger guidelines. Currently, the platform is pursuing a softer, more voluntary approach rather than mandatory disclosure.
