Google unveiled a dedicated Gemini app for Windows, bringing its AI assistant directly to the desktop. The new application allows you to access Gemini without opening a browser.
The app is available globally for Windows 10 and Windows 11.Reportedly, users can access Gemini through a keyboard shortcut, work on multi-step tasks and use Google apps for additional context.
Installing the Gemini app is straightforward. Users need a Windows 10 or later PC, at least 8GB of RAM, 200MB of available storage, and a stable internet connection. A Google Account is also required.
To install the app, visit gemini.google/desktop, download the GeminiSetup.exe file and run the installer. Once installation is complete, open Gemini from the Start menu and sign in with a Google Account. You can now press Alt + Space to open Gemini over their active work.
This can help users fact-check information, generate ideas, draft content or solve a problem without switching between applications. The feature makes Gemini more accessible during routine desktop tasks.
The app also extends Gemini’s creative capabilities to Windows desktops. Google further explained that it can generate custom images with Nano Banana. You can also create videos using Gemini Omni.
This could make the application useful for presentations, content creation and visual projects, reducing the need to move between separate AI tools
