US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded USD 224 million in net outflows on September 16 after the Federal Reserve delivered its first interest rate increase in three years. BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust, or ETHA, led the withdrawals with USD 110.03 million in redemptions. Even so, Ethereum’s spot price rose 1.54% during the same session.
ETHA posted the largest single-fund redemption across the US spot Ethereum ETF market that day. The USD 110.03 million withdrawal placed BlackRock at the center of the sector’s selling activity.
Fidelity’s FETH followed with USD 55.58 million in outflows. BlackRock’s staking-enabled ETHB lost another USD 19.76 million, pushing combined Ethereum ETF net outflows to USD 224 million.
Meanwhile, 21Shares’ TETH recorded minor inflows. Bitcoin ETFs also lost nearly USD 296 million, while BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for USD 144.1 million of those redemptions.
The ETF withdrawals came one day after the Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act by a narrow margin. According to 247wallst, the September 15 vote left regulatory ambiguities unresolved for Ethereum and the broader cryptocurrency sector.
The unresolved framework keeps legal and compliance uncertainty in place for market participants. This uncertainty can affect institutional engagement and short-term ETH trading activity while investors assess changing regulatory conditions.
At the same time, the Fed’s September 16 rate hike added a separate source of market pressure. The broader crypto fund market also saw outflows, with both Ethereum and Bitcoin products losing capital.

On the four-hour chart, ETH/USD trades below the MA-20 and MA-50. Still, the pair remains above the long-term MA-200, while the Ichimoku Kijun at USD 2,486 acts as immediate resistance. MACD shows a Sell signal, while ADX indicates indecisive trend strength. RSI and CCI also sit in Sell territory, while Stoch RSI remains Neutral and Bull/Bear Power stays Oversold.
Near-term projections place ETH/USD between USD 2,299 and USD 2,626. The probability of a move higher stands at 47%, which leaves downside risk modestly favored.
A breakout above USD 2,486 would support stronger upside price action. By contrast, a decisive move below USD 2,299 would expose ETH to losses beyond short-term support.
