BNB Chain has outlined plans for a new Layer 1 blockchain that will operate alongside BNB Smart Chain (BSC), using BNB rather than launching another token. According to documents published on Oct. 22, the network, currently called New L1, is being built for applications that need faster transactions, including trading platforms and payments.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao wrote on X on Oct. 25, 'Multiple chains, one coins.' The project has no official name.
BSC will continue hosting decentralized finance services and other applications, while New L1 will focus on activities that need shorter processing delays.
A native bridge will connect the two chains and allow users to move BNB between them. Developers are still building the bridge, and the new network has no public access.
BNB will cover transaction fees and staking on New L1. Users who stake BNB will receive govBNB at a one-to-one ratio. These non-transferable units give holders voting power after delegation, allowing them to take part in decisions about network settings.
The plan follows BNB Chain's work to increase capacity on its existing network. Its 2026 roadmap called for faster settlement and higher transaction throughput without moving current applications to a different chain.
BNB Chain is targeting a block time of 200 milliseconds and transaction pre-confirmations in roughly 20 milliseconds. Its updated Parlia system aims to establish transaction ordering in less than one second.
However, a pre-confirmation does not mean a payment is final. The documents say that the initial signal can be withdrawn and that users must wait for execution finality before treating a transfer as irreversible.
To support faster processing, the network will separate the ordering of transactions from their execution. It will also reserve part of each block's capacity for selected applications through a system called Multi-Lane.
The design covers trading, decentralized order books and payments. An Oct. 23 market report recorded USD 25.6 billion in tokenized stock transactions on BNB Chain during the third quarter. Meanwhile, existing Solidity smart contracts should remain compatible, although some Ethereum transaction types and developer tools will not work in the same way.
New L1 will also support sponsored fees, grouped transactions and an optional feature for private transfers. The privacy feature has not completed its security audits and is not ready to handle real funds.
For now, developers are testing New L1 on an internal network with several validators. The development network produces blocks and runs its settlement process, but the public cannot yet connect to it.
BNB Chain's July technical roadmap sets a public testnet target for late 2026 and a mainnet release for early 2027. The company has not announced firm launch dates, and the schedule may change as development continues.
The project has yet to publish a public network address, final chain ID or block explorer. These details will become available when a public network opens.
On BSC, development will continue separately. The August Pasteur upgrade changed block production and added checks for validator authorization and bridge activity. For New L1, the team must still complete the native bridge and audit its private-transfer system before the planned mainnet rollout.
