Apple’s first foldable iPhone is set to arrive in India with a price tag that puts it in a different league from most smartphones. The iPhone Duo starts at Rs. 2,99,900 for the 256GB model, while the 512GB and 1TB variants cost Rs. 3,24,900 and Rs. 3,74,900, respectively. The top-end 2TB version goes up to Rs. 4,49,900.

This pricing naturally led to comparisons beyond other smartphones. At around Rs. 3 lakh, the money required for the entry-level Duo can also cover the cost of several motorcycles available in India, depending on the model and location.

What Else Can Rs. 3 Lakh Buy?

The comparison gets interesting when you place the iPhone Duo’s price alongside popular two-wheelers. A budget of around Rs. 3 lakh can get buyers motorcycles from several established brands, including performance-focused models.

Foldable iPhone with a Luxury Price Tag

iPhone Duo’s Indian pricing also stands out when compared with other markets. Apple has priced the base model at USD 1,999 in the US, while the Indian price is Rs. 2,99,900. Converted at current exchange rates, the US price works out to considerably less than the Indian sticker price, although US sales taxes vary by state.

Taxes, import-related costs, and Apple's pricing strategy all contribute to differences between markets, although Apple has not provided a specific breakdown explaining the Indian price. The high price does come with hardware unlike any previous iPhone. The Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen, along with Apple’s A20 Pro chip and a foldable design. Apple says the device is its thinnest iPhone when opened.

Pre-orders in India will begin on October 16, with sales starting October 23. For buyers willing to spend nearly Rs. 3 lakh or more on a smartphone, the iPhone Duo offers Apple's first foldable experience.
