The first foldable iPhone, known as the iPhone Duo, is priced at Rs. 2,99,900 in India. Those who want to insure their iPhone Duo can go with AppleCare+, but protection plan alone costs a staggering price of Rs. 51,900, nearly equal to that of a complete iPhone 16e.
AppleCare+ covers accidental damage, hardware repairs, along with technical support. But users will still incur a service charge for accident repairs under AppleCare+.
The base iPhone Duo retails at Rs. 2,99,900 (256GB); therefore, the Rs. 51,900 AppleCare+ plan is about 17% of the iPhone Duo's retail price. Including the protection plan, the 256GB model costs Rs. 3,51,800 (with no other accessories).
AppleCare+ provides hardware coverage, priority technical support, and protection against accidental damage, subject to Apple’s terms and applicable service fees.

AppleCare+ does not mean accidental repairs become free. Customers still pay a service fee based on the type of damage.
For screen-only damage, the service fee is Rs. 2,500. The same Rs. 2,500 fee applies to back-glass-only damage. Other accidental damage carries an Rs. 8,900 service fee.
The distinction could matter for the iPhone Duo since the device features a folding inner display, an outer display, and a hinge mechanism. AppleCare+ reduces the financial exposure from accidental damage but does not eliminate repair charges.
The iPhone Duo starts at Rs. 2,99,900 with 256GB of storage, while the 512GB variant is available at Rs. 3,24,900. The 1TB model is priced at Rs. 3,74,900, while the 2TB model is available for Rs. 4,49,900.
Adding AppleCare+ to the 2TB model pushes the total price above Rs. 5 lakh.
If you want protection against damage or high maintenance costs on Apple's first-generation foldable devices, AppleCare+ is an option.
However, if you change phones often and don't mind accidentally damaging them, it will be tough to justify the extra cost of Rs. 51,900.
