Apple's first foldable iPhone has reportedly entered mass production, bringing the company one step closer to its expected September 2026 launch. According to several supply chain reports, the tech giant has started making the phone in large numbers after finishing its final design. The foldable model is expected to launch with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at Apple's September event.
The company’s previous reports suggested a slight delay in the release of foldable phones as it faced issues while making its new hinge. However, fresh updates now suggest these problems have been sorted out, and production is moving ahead as planned.
The new update also differs from a recent prediction by well-known Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo. He said Apple could announce the foldable phone in September, although customers might have to wait until later in the year to buy it. He believes Apple may release only a limited number of phones at first while production continues to increase. Even so, the latest supply chain reports say the project remains on schedule.
The foldable phone is expected to carry the iPhone Ultra name, although Apple has not confirmed it. Reports say the device will have a large 7.8-inch OLED display inside and a 5.5-inch screen on the outside. The phone may use a book-style folding design that opens like a small tablet. Apple is also expected to use a titanium body and a new hinge that makes the screen fold look much smoother.
The phone could also come with Apple's upcoming A20 chip, giving it faster performance and better battery efficiency. Reports suggest Apple may use a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the power button instead of Face ID. The device is also expected to include two rear cameras and a slim, premium design.
Mass production is an important step before any smartphone launch. It shows Apple has entered the final stage before introducing its first foldable phone. Apple also appears ready to compete with brands like Samsung and Huawei, which already sell foldable smartphones around the world.
Reports say Apple has increased its production target from about 7 million or 8 million units to nearly 10 million units for 2026. This increase shows the company expects strong demand for its first foldable device. Even with higher production, early stock may remain limited. The phone could cost between $2,300 and $2,500, making it the most expensive iPhone ever. Apple has not officially announced the phone, so the name, features, price, and launch date could still change before the September event.
