Amazon has launched a fully redesigned Kindle lineup, with a new base Kindle, a new Kindle Paperwhite and a new Kindle Colorsoft. The company announced the range on October 1, 2026.
The new look comes from a "reverse stack" display design, which gives all three models a flat, edge-to-edge screen. Amazon says this is its biggest hardware refresh in years. Devices vice president Kevin Keith said, "Today, we're introducing a completely redesigned Kindle lineup."
The base Kindle has a 6-inch screen and costs USD 149.99. It has 16GB of storage and shows ads on the lock screen. Amazon says it opens books 30 per cent faster than the older model. A new aluminium version offers 32GB and no ads.
The Kindle Paperwhite starts at USD 199.99. It is thinner, lighter and waterproof, with a 7-inch display and adjustable warm light. Its battery lasts up to 12 weeks. Amazon claims it has the highest contrast of any Kindle. The Signature Edition costs USD 249 and adds an aluminium back, 32GB of storage and an auto-brightness sensor.
The Kindle Colorsoft starts at USD 289.99. It has a redesigned display that Amazon says gives paper-like colour without the glare of a tablet.
Amazon has also added new accessories. The Kindle Click is a Bluetooth remote that turns pages on Kindles from 2024 or later, and it costs USD 34.99. A Page-Turn cover with physical buttons costs USD 79.99, while a charging dock costs USD 59.99.
All three models come in Kids editions. Each includes kid-friendly covers and 12 months of Amazon Kids+.
The base Kindle is on sale now in select markets. Preorders for the Paperwhite and Colorsoft are open, and both ship on October 28. Amazon did not mention India in the markets listed in the reports I found.
The company says Kindle sales have grown in double digits for three years in a row. It adds that readers viewed more than 720 billion pages in 2025.
