Acer is bringing its Predator gaming handheld to the US market for the first time, giving PC gamers another option for playing demanding titles without carrying a full-sized laptop. The Predator Atlas 8 will arrive at Best Buy on November 1, with the higher-performance model priced at USD 1,299.99.
The launch marks a new step for Acer's handheld gaming business in the United States. Although the company has previously announced gaming handhelds under its Predator brand, the Atlas 8 is the first to receive an official US launch. Its price puts it in the premium segment, alongside other high-performance Windows gaming handhelds.
According to reports, the US model uses Intel's Arc G3 Extreme processor. Preorders have already sold out, but Acer said that online orders will reopen on November 1, when the device will also be available in stores.
The Predator Atlas 8 features an 8-inch WUXGA touchscreen with a 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports variable refresh rate technology, which reduces screen tearing and delivers smoother motion during gameplay.
The US model combines Intel's Arc G3 Extreme processor with Arc B390 graphics and 24GB of LPDDR5X memory. Best Buy's listed configuration includes a 512GB SSD, providing space for games and applications.
The handheld runs Windows 11, allowing users to access PC games and services, including Xbox Game Pass. This gives players access to a broader PC gaming library rather than being limited to a single console ecosystem.

Acer has equipped the Atlas 8 with a dual-fan cooling system designed to manage heat during extended gaming sessions. One fan uses the company's metal AeroBlade design, while the other uses a conventional plastic construction.
The controls also include adjustable triggers. Players can switch between a short-response micro-switch mode, suited to fast-paced shooters, and an analog mode that offers more control for racing games and other titles that benefit from variable trigger pressure.
The device supports handheld play and docked use. Its design aims to combine the flexibility of a Windows PC with controls familiar to console gamers.

At USD 1,299.99, the Predator Atlas 8 enters a competitive market where buyers already have several Windows-based gaming handhelds to consider. Its large display, Intel graphics platform, and extensive PC game compatibility are central to its appeal.
However, the price may make it a tough choice for casual players who mainly want to play on the go. Independent performance reviews will help determine whether its hardware justifies the premium.
For now, Acer's US launch expands options for PC gamers seeking a portable system with desktop-style gaming flexibility. The device's reception will depend on real-world performance, battery life, and how well it handles demanding games away from a power outlet.
