It's time to move onto smartwatches. Samsung's just revealed the Galaxy Watch 9, and it's promising some handy new software features.

These include sleep apnea detection, which is also coming to the Galaxy Ring — and apparently makes it the only FDA-cleared, over-the-counter ring device with that feature.

The Galaxy Watch 9 will also have "proactive" features that constantly monitor things like heart rate and heart rate variability, and crunch all these together into a new heart health score.

Samsung says it's partnering with iFit for its subscription fitness content, too. 

After months of wait, Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy Glasses. The company has collaborated with lifestyle brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster for the frames of its first smart eyewear, similar to Meta's collaboration with Ray-Ban. A Snapdragon chipset powers the Galaxy Glasses.

It features a built-in camera, which allows the AI assistant to generate answers based on visual context. The South Korean tech giant claims that the smart glasses will provide up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge.

Samsung not only claims it to be the most powerful Galaxy Watch to date, but also the strongest Galaxy Watch ever. The battery has also been upgraded, and it is now claimed to last up to 60 hours on a single charge. 

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy combines Qualcomm’s new CPU, GPU, and NPU to deliver enhanced performance and computing on the latest Galaxy foldables, Cristiano Amon, CEO and President of Qualcomm said at Galaxy Unpacked. 

Users can expect more intelligent features and seamless experiences, while the ultra-efficient architecture of the chip promises that it will last longer.

Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Devices & Services at Google, has just taken the stage at Galaxy Unpacked to explain the next generation of task automations on Galaxy, powered by Gemini. You can snap a photo of an item and ask Gemini to look for a similar one on the internet for you to buy. There is automation support for more than 40 apps across categories, with many more regions and languages coming soon.

Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) can bring together notes, images, recordings, files, and documents into a unified workspace.

Galaxy AI features a personal data engine that offers suggestions while you move between apps. It’s intended to provide recommendations and anticipate your needs. For instance, in different scenarios, like when a co-worker mentions a meeting, the AI-powered Down Nudge can supposedly give you ideas. Samsung revealed that its foldables come with Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) preloaded. Gemini Notebook is Google’s advanced AI research tool, which you can use for things like analyzing data from PDFs and spreadsheets, breaking down complicated topics and turning your content into other media, like podcast-style audio.

Samsung’s $2,100 Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra refines the design of last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, while adding enhancements to the phone’s cameras and battery. Even though it will be the thinnest Fold ever at 4.1mm when unfolded, Samsung has included a larger 5,000-mAh battery, which is a sizable increase over prior Fold phones. 

The phone has a 6.5-inch exterior display and an 8-inch display on the inside. The cameras include a 200-megapixel wide camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom. There are also two 10-megapixel selfie cameras on the exterior and interior displays.

Samsung’s $1,200 Galaxy Z Flip 8 has been unveiled at Unpacked, and sports a thinner and lighter design. I got to try out the Flip 8, and was quickly impressed by enhancements to the cover screen that make it easier to use.

In particular, the Z Flip 8’s cover screen now makes it easier to add apps – a process that previously required fiddling with a lot of settings. And the phone now has a Recent Apps feature, letting you quickly switch between apps like Maps and Music. 

The new Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable smartphone has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is an ideal size whether in landscape or portrait orientation. The inner display has enough extra real estate for multitasking and entertainment.

The all-new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is available for pre-order today and starts at $1,899.99. It's available in four colors: lavender, cream, graphite, and pistachio and will be widely available starting Aug. 7.

As per tipster Evan Blass, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could come with the same camera setup as last year with a 50MP primary, 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP selfie lens. The phone could also come with the same 4,300mAh battery as last year.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is tipped to offer a peak brightness of 5,000 nits. This is said again believed to be a notable jump over the 3,000 nits supported by the current Galaxy Watch Ultra. Previous reports also indicated that Samsung could utilise the latest OCF (On-Cell Film) OLED technology, which was first showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year.

Samsung could alter its long-running pre-order storage upgrade programme this year. Historically, the company has routinely offered customers a complimentary storage upgrade when they pre-order the next-generation flagship Galaxy devices. For example, someone who pre-reserved a Galaxy S26 256GB variant would be eligible to receive a 512GB model at no extra cost.

There have been rumors about the launch of an additional foldable phone which will come with a book-fold design similar to that of a tablet. The upcoming foldables will feature slimmer designs, better hinges, minimized display creases, increased battery capacity, and the latest generation of the Snapdragon processor by Qualcomm. Samsung has also announced the development of its new foldable display technology called the Flex Titanium

Samsung has dropped subtle hints that its upcoming Galaxy products will offer improved AI experiences compared to those seen previously in the form of Galaxy AI which was unveiled in early 2023. The advancements are expected to boost productivity, communication, photography, and on-device intelligence.

Apart from smartphones, Samsung will reveal the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 along with advanced health tracking features thanks to wearable processors. Speculations abound of new AI-driven products being announced at the event, including Samsung’s much-talked-about smart glasses and potentially, new open-ear wireless earbuds that could increase situational awareness for users.
