Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves lead Tyler Perry’s ‘Doing Life’ as Anika and Carousel, respectively, in Netflix’s emotional drama.
Tamberla Perry, Karen Obilom, Jasmine Sargent and Danielle Moné Truitt play important supporting roles throughout the film.
‘Doing Life’ explores relationships, redemption and second chances through two people confronting difficult circumstances and personal histories.
Tyler Perry’s ‘Doing Life’ brings together a talented ensemble for a story built around love, difficult choices, redemption and second chances. The Netflix drama follows Anika, a single mother and former prison officer, whose life takes an unexpected turn after she develops a connection with Carousel, a reformed ex-convict.
Directed and written by Tyler Perry, the film puts its characters and their personal journeys at the centre of the story. Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves lead the cast, supported by several familiar faces from television and film. Here is a look at the actors appearing in ‘Doing Life’.
Naomi Baker plays Anika, the central character in ‘Doing Life’. Anika is a single mother and former prison officer who finds herself dealing with circumstances that force her to reconsider her understanding of relationships and second chances.
Baker has previously appeared in All American: Homecoming. With ‘Doing Life’, she takes on one of her most prominent roles yet, carrying much of the film’s emotional story.
Jay Reeves stars opposite Baker as Carousel, a reformed ex-convict trying to move forward from his past.
Carousel’s relationship with Anika becomes an important part of the story as both characters confront their own experiences and expectations. Reeves is known for his role in All American and previously worked with Perry in The Six Triple Eight.
Tamberla Perry plays Cathy, a supporting character connected to Anika’s story. Perry has built a varied career across television and film, with credits including Brilliant Minds and They Cloned Tyrone.
Her role adds another layer to the relationships surrounding the film’s main characters.

Karen Obilom appears as Trina. The actress is recognized for her work in shows such as Games People Play and Doom Patrol.
Obilom brings another familiar face to the ensemble, which balances newer performers with actors who already have experience in television dramas.
Jasmine Sargent plays Lisa in the film. Her previous credits include Dynasty, The Day Ones and House of Payne.
Sargent is part of the supporting cast that helps build the world around Anika and Carousel as their story develops.
Danielle Moné Truitt takes on the role of Denise. She is known for her television work, including appearances in Law & Order: Organized Crime and Rebel.
Her experience in dramatic roles makes her a notable addition to the cast of ‘Doing Life’.
The film also features Lucky Johnson as Quinn, Cornell Young IV as Donovan, and Cali Rae Benard and Marley Jade Benard as Nia. The supporting cast further includes Mike Massa, Joyce Glenn and Justin James Boykin.
Together, the ensemble gives the film a broader set of characters beyond its two central leads.
At its heart, ‘Doing Life’ is about two people from very different circumstances who develop an unexpected connection. Anika’s life as a single mother and former prison officer intersects with Carousel’s attempts to rebuild his life after prison.
Rather than focusing only on the circumstances that brought the characters together, the film explores what happens when people are given an opportunity to look beyond someone’s past.
