Fans waiting for Gizmo and the Gremlins to return will have to wait a little longer. Warner Bros. pushed the release of ‘Gremlins 3’ to October 6, 2028. The film was earlier scheduled to arrive on November 19, 2027.
The studio announced the new date with a short teaser featuring Gizmo, the furry Mogwai who remained at the heart of the franchise since the original Gremlins was released in 1984. The teaser does not reveal much about the story, but it confirms that the iconic creature will once again be part of the series.
The new film is particularly significant for fans as it will arrive almost four decades after ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch,’ which was released in 1990.
Gremlins 3 will now release in theatres on October 6, 2028, replacing its earlier November 2027 release date. Warner Bros. did not announce why the film was pushed back.

The franchise began with Joe Dante’s Gremlins in 1984. The story centers on Billy Peltzer, who receives Gizmo as a Christmas present. The seemingly harmless Mogwai comes with three important rules: keep him away from bright light, never get him wet, and do not feed him after midnight.
Billy eventually breaks those rules, setting off a chain of events that turns Gizmo’s offspring into mischievous and dangerous Gremlins. The creatures take over Kingston Falls on Christmas Eve, leaving Billy and his family to deal with the chaos.
The film stood out as it mixes horror, comedy and fantasy rather than fitting neatly into one clear genre. Its Christmas setting also gave the story an unusual contrast between festive surroundings and increasingly dark creature mayhem.
Gremlins became both a commercial and critical success and remains one of the best-known creature features of the 1980s. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the film at 86% from critics and 78% from audiences.
Six years later, ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’ brought Billy and Gizmo back for a much bigger adventure. This time, Gizmo ends up inside a huge corporate skyscraper, where he is exposed to water and once again becomes the source of a new ‘Gremlin’ outbreak.
The sequel took a very different approach from the original. Instead of replying mainly on the small-town horror-comedy formula, director Joe Dante pushed the humour, satire and self-awareness much further.
The film introduced several unusual Gremlin variations and used the corporate setting to poke fun at television, consumer culture and the media industry.
While gremlins 2 developed a strong cult following, its reception was more mixed than the original. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives its 71% from critics and 59% from audiences.

There is still plenty that Warner Bros. is keeping under wraps. The studio did not reveal the official plot, full cast, or details about how the new story will connect to the previous films.
The involvement of Columbus and Spielberg, however, gives the third film a direct link to the franchise’s original creative team. The October 6, 2028 release also places Gremlins 3 close to Halloween, which could allow the film to lean into the horror side of the franchise while retaining the comedy that made the earlier movies distinctive.
For now, Gizmo is back, but almost everything else remains a mystery. After more than 30 years since the last film, fans will have to wait until 2028 to find out what new trouble awaits the Mogwai.
