While JSW Motors and Genesis have concrete plans for the market, Leapmotor already announced its India entry through Stellantis. Slate Auto, meanwhile, is showing early signs of interest through patent filings.
JSW Motors is among the most immediate new entrants to watch. The company. The company announced the launch of its first car in India in 2026. Bookings are expected in November, and deliveries will begin towards the end of 2026 or early 2027.
JSW Motors’ first SUV is an upgraded version of the Jetour T2 model, through its alliance with Chery. This marks JSW Motors’ foray into the passenger vehicle segment while the popularity of SUVs continues unabated.
Another reason why JSW Motors' strategy is relevant is that the company is eyeing not only conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles but new energy vehicles too.
Hyundai’s luxury marque Genesis is preparing for an India debut in 2027. Hyundai also announced that it is planning to introduce the Genesis range into India, and assembly will be done locally.
Genesis India product range is expected to offer premium SUVs, where the GV80 and GV80 Coupe may form the initial line-up. Genesis would be entering a segment that already has luxury brands and would attempt to capitalize on Hyundai's existing infrastructure in India.
However, the local assembly aspect is highly significant for Genesis. Genesis can now compete better in the Indian luxury car market. The launch in India will allow Hyundai to make a mark in the premium luxury segment.

Chinese EV maker Leapmotor is another brand preparing for a potential India presence. In April 2025, Stellantis confirmed plans to introduce Leapmotor to the Indian market, bringing yet another electric car brand under its wings in India.
Specifically, Leapmotor's intentions with respect to the Indian market are important, considering the international support of the brand by Stellantis. This means that the company gets access to a well-established automotive group and its infrastructure.
The B10 electric SUV can become another contender for the Indian market as well. Leapmotor submitted a design patent for the B10 electric SUV in India in April 2026, a second one after the C10. It is important to note that the patent itself does not prove that the vehicle will be launched in India.
B10 is a mainstream C-SUV offered internationally as both an electric car and a range extender hybrid. The global B10 is based on the LEAP 3.5 technology platform. It also features advanced connected and driver assistance features. This might mean that another technology-oriented EV manufacturer will compete with Tata, Mahindra, MG, Hyundai, and BYD.
The Slate Auto entry comes as the most speculative on this list, since the US-based electric vehicle maker has patented its electric pickup and fastback-SUV in India. Nevertheless, there is no official India launch information available at the moment.
The vehicle maker has gained attention through its innovative modular EV solution. It has built its electric vehicle to be used either as an electric pickup or as an SUV using optional accessories.
The US model starts at $25,000 and uses a basic electric powertrain, while buyers can choose from more than 100 accessories. The vehicle can also be converted from a pickup into a five-seat SUV. For India, however, the key distinction is that patent activity should not be treated as confirmation of a market launch. Slate’s India plans remain unconfirmed.
These four brands feature different strategies in India. JSW Motors is gearing up for an immediate launch, Genesis is set to come up in 2027 with its focus on luxury cars, Leapmotor is planning to enter the EV space using Stellantis, and Slate Auto is at an experimental stage.
The imminent entry of these brands is also indicative of the fact that the auto market in India is undergoing transformations. The segment of SUVs, electric cars, premium cars, and tech-driven cars is carving out a niche for new entrants in the Indian automobile market. However, it is difficult to enter India.
For now, JSW Motors and Genesis have the clearest timelines, Leapmotor has an established India-entry plan, and Slate Auto remains a watchlist name rather than a confirmed entrant.
