Apple’s first foldable iPhone is yet to arrive, but details about a much later model are already emerging. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company’s third-generation foldable iPhone Ultra could feature larger displays on both the outside and inside compared with the company’s first-generation model.

The tech giant’s first-generation foldable iPhone is due in the coming weeks, while the third-generation model could arrive in about two years. Given Apple’s lengthy product development cycles, the company could still revise its plans before the device reaches the market.

iPhone Ultra 3 May Get Bigger Screens

Gurman’s latest information points to Apple considering larger displays for both the outer and inner screens of the third-generation iPhone Ultra. However, the analyst did not reveal specific screen sizes, leaving the extent of the possible increase unclear.

The first-generation foldable iPhone is widely rumored to feature a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Apple itself still offers no confirmation about these details.

Gurman’s report does not point to a display-size increase for the second-generation foldable iPhone. Instead, the next reported increase could arrive with the third generation.

First Foldable iPhone Could Arrive Later This Year

The first-generation iPhone Ultra will probably enter the market as Apple’s first foldable iPhone later this year. Rumors point to a book-style form factor, with a smaller outer screen for regular smartphone tasks and a significantly larger display when unfolded. The latter is expected to measure 7.8 inches, offering additional screen space for different activities.

Despite widespread reports, Apple still offers no official information about the foldable iPhone, its exact name, or its features. Current screen-size details therefore remain unconfirmed.

Second-Generation Model Remains Unclear

The second-generation foldable iPhone could follow the first model as early as next year. Gurman’s latest information does not indicate larger screens for that version.

This would leave the third-generation iPhone Ultra as the first reported model in the roadmap to receive a display-size increase. Apple could instead take a gradual approach to its foldable lineup, depending on consumer response and competition from Samsung and other manufacturers.

Plans Could Still Change

With the third-generation iPhone Ultra still almost two years away, Apple could revise the design before development concludes. Gurman did not provide specific numbers for either display, and no other major design changes are currently known.

For now, the reported 5.5-inch external and 7.8-inch internal screens remain the key details surrounding Apple’s first foldable iPhone. If the latest information proves accurate, the iPhone Ultra 3 could eventually offer larger displays on both sides while retaining the basic book-style foldable design.
