Apple is planning a personalized touch for customers purchasing its upcoming iPhone Duo at retail stores in the United States. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple retail employees will be able to customise the device's initial startup screen to display the buyer's name.
The feature will be exclusive to the iPhone Duo and support English and Spanish. The development comes ahead of the device's scheduled launch on October 23, 2026.
In a post on X on October 9, Gurman revealed that Apple retail stores in the US would have a system to personalise the iPhone Duo's startup screen.
The feature would allow the device to display a greeting that includes the buyer's name when it is switched on for the first time. For instance, the screen could read, ‘Hello, Mark'.
Gurman described the feature as a small addition to the iPhone Duo launch. However, the personalisation option will be limited to US Apple retail stores, the iPhone Duo and the English and Spanish languages.
Apple has not officially confirmed the feature or explained how customers will be able to request it.
It remains unclear how Apple plans to implement the personalized greeting. One possibility is the company's existing Presto system, which allows retail employees to update iPhones wirelessly without removing them from their sealed packaging.
First reported by Gurman in 2023, Presto enables Apple Store employees to turn on an iPhone, install software updates and switch it off again while it remains inside its box.
However, Apple has not confirmed whether Presto will be used to configure the iPhone Duo's startup screen or whether a separate system will handle the process.

Apple's iPhone Duo will be available for pre-order starting Friday, October 16, 2026. Deliveries and in-store availability are scheduled to begin on Friday, October 23.
Apple has also announced that customers can prepare for pre-orders starting October 12, allowing prospective buyers to get ready ahead of the ordering window.
The personalized greeting could offer buyers an additional touch when purchasing the device directly from an Apple Store. Further details about the feature and its availability have not yet been announced.
