Top IIMs vs Non-IIMs: Fees & Average CTC

IIM or Non-IIM? - An MBA does not automatically mean choosing an IIM. Leading non-IIM schools such as SPJIMR and MDI Gurgaon also report strong placement outcomes, while fees vary significantly across institutions. Here is a snapshot of selected schools using recent published fee and average-CTC figures for comparison.

IIM Ahmedabad - IIM Ahmedabad’s MBA fee is listed at about Rs. 25 lakh, while its latest average campus CTC is around Rs. 34.45 LPA. The figures show the scale of investment involved in a flagship IIM programme. Actual costs can differ depending on additional expenses and individual circumstances.

IIM Bangalore - IIM Bangalore’s listed MBA fee is approximately Rs. 24.5 lakh, with the latest average CTC reported at about Rs. 35.92 LPA. These figures come from recent placement and fee data. Students should also account for living expenses and other programme-related costs when estimating total expenditure.

IIM Calcutta - IIM Calcutta is listed with an MBA fee of roughly Rs. 27 lakh and an average CTC of about Rs. 35.07 LPA. Its fee sits toward the higher end among the selected IIMs. Placement averages represent the graduating batch and do not indicate what every student earns.

SPJIMR Mumbai - SPJIMR offers a major non-IIM benchmark. Its Class of 2026 reported an average CTC of Rs. 33.75 LPA and median CTC of Rs. 32.85 LPA, with the highest CTC at Rs. 75 LPA. The institute reported 100% placements for its combined PGDM and PGDM(BM) cohort.

MDI Gurgaon - MDI Gurgaon also posted strong 2026 placement numbers. Its flagship PGDM average package was Rs. 29.5 LPA, with a Rs. 29 lakh median, while the highest package reached Rs. 97.5 LPA. The institute reported 157 recruiters and 189 pre-placement offers during the placement process.

Compare More Than the CTC - Fees and average CTC provide useful starting points, but they do not tell the complete MBA story. Students should also examine programme structure, location, specialisations, placement roles, batch size, scholarships, financing and career goals before comparing IIM and non-IIM options.
