India’s Electric SUV Market: 5 Upcoming Models to Watch

Honda’s first made-in-India electric SUV is set for its global debut in India on December 2, 2026. It is expected to be a compact electric SUV and will mark Honda’s first major locally manufactured EV push in the country.

Mahindra BE 07
Mahindra’s BE 07 is expected to launch in production form in early 2027. Built on the INGLO platform, it will sit above the BE 6 and may offer 59kWh or 79kWh battery options, competing with the Tata Harrier EV and VinFast VF7.

Tata Safari EV
Tata’s first three-row electric SUV, the Safari EV, is now expected in early 2027 after a reported delay. It should bring electric mobility to Tata’s popular seven-seat SUV nameplate and target families seeking space, range, and premium features.

Hyundai Ioniq P
Hyundai has trademarked the Ioniq P name for its upcoming compact electric SUV, internally codenamed HE1i. It is expected by March 2027 and will likely rival the Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, Kia Syros EV, and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

Mahindra Vision S
Mahindra is preparing a new electric SUV expected in December 2026, likely the production version of the Vision S concept. It will be the first model based on the flexible NU_IQ platform, which can support electric, hybrid, petrol, and diesel powertrains.

VinFast VF5
VinFast is expected to launch the VF5 electric SUV in India in the coming months. The compact model is likely to be positioned as an accessible city-focused EV, expanding VinFast’s India lineup beyond its earlier premium-oriented electric offerings.
