How to Delete X Account and Keep Your Tweets

Saying Goodbye to X, Not to Memories: Thinking of quitting X but keeping some of those ancient tweets? Possibly. There is a way to save posts before closing an account. This quick tutorial explains how to delete an X account without losing those cherished memories. Follow each step to maintain control over your data

Step 1: Download Your Tweet Archive: Go to the account settings and look for the "Download an archive of your data" option. Request the file. This may take a few hours or days to prepare. The archive contains all of your tweets and retweets, plus everything else, including media and profile info. It is ready as a downloadable ZIP file that will be sent to your email or appear as a notification

Step 2: Open It and Check Archive Contents: Once downloaded, unzip the file and open its content in any browser or text editor. The tweets will be presented in a clean layout, sometimes sorted by date. Media files may be available (images, videos). Don't forget to save a backup copy on your computer or any cloud drive sync account to look into it down the line

Step 3: Saving Tweets in other formats: To preserve the tweets beyond the archive, we recommend exporting them to PDF or plain text. You may screenshot your favorite posts or use a tool to convert the tweet threads into a readable blog-style page. This way, you can later come back and re-read posts without depending on the X platform

Step 4: Unlink Third-Party Websites and Apps: Before deleting the account, unlink any apps or websites linked through X to prevent issues with login on unsupported platforms that use X credentials. Go to ‘Connected apps’ under security settings and revoke access from any app you do not wish to remain connected

Step 5: Delete the Account on X: Navigate to ‘Account Settings’ and click on ‘Deactivate account’. Follow the instructions and confirm the deletion. You are allowed 30 days from the time of deactivation to change your mind before permanent removal of your account takes place. Once the permanent deletion occurs, your tweets will be taken down and will no longer show up anywhere in cyberspace

Keep the Past, Move On Peacefully: An X account deletion does not mean everything is left behind. The tweets remain in the offline archives and backups. Depending on the steps taken, one can move away from the platform while still keeping the memories safe and easy to revisit
