Avoid Unexpected Charges: Disabling In-App Purchases on iPhone

On your iPhone, in-app purchases offer you the convenience of effortless paying, but they can also unexpectedly cost you money, particularly if you have a family or accidentally tap something. The first step for controlling your in-app purchase feature is to open your iPhone Settings app. Your Settings app is where you will control many features of your device; you just need to find the gray gear icon, normally located on your home screen, and tap it to move to the next step of restricting your spending.

Now that we are within the Settings app, you will have all the device’s controls. The next step will be to scroll down the list of options until you find Screen Time. Within the Screen Time feature, you will have usage information about your device and tools that help you manage usage. Tap on Screen Time to find the controls, including purchase controls.

Go to the Screen Time menu and select Content & Privacy Restrictions, where you can prevent access to specific types of content and apps and block the ability to buy things. If this is your first time using it to control purchases, you may have to toggle it to "On."

Once you are in Content & Privacy Restrictions, look for iTunes & App Store Purchases and select it. This is where you will adjust all settings regarding purchases in the App Store, iTunes Store, and, of course, in-app purchases for applications on your iPhone.

You will see some different settings. Select Don't Allow to disable them completely. With just this action, you will stop any in-app purchases from occurring on your iPhone until you change that setting back.
