Avengers: Endgame Encore: Loki’s Ending And His Fate Explained

Loki’s Unexpected Escape

Loki’s story takes an unexpected turn in Avengers: Endgame when the Avengers travel back to 2012. During the New York battle, the alternate Loki grabs the Tesseract and uses it to escape. This creates a separate timeline, setting up events that eventually lead to his own series.

The Tesseract Changes Everything

The Tesseract is central to Loki’s escape. After the Avengers accidentally let him take it, Loki disappears before they can capture him. This version of Loki is different from the character who later dies at Thanos’ hands, creating an alternate path for his story.

Loki’s Original Fate

In the main timeline, Loki meets a tragic end during Avengers: Infinity War. He attempts to attack Thanos after the Mad Titan captures the Asgardians. Thanos overpowers him and kills Loki. However, the Loki seen after the 2012 events belongs to an alternate timeline.

The Timeline Splits

Loki’s escape splits the timeline. The Avengers eventually return the Infinity Stones to their respective points in history, but Loki’s disappearance creates circumstances outside the original sequence. This branching timeline becomes important to understanding Loki’s later adventures.

Loki Meets The TVA

The escaped Loki is eventually captured by the Time Variance Authority, commonly known as the TVA. The organization monitors timelines and identifies Loki as a variant. Instead of returning to his original story, he becomes involved in a much larger conflict involving time and reality.

Loki’s Story Continues

Loki’s journey continues beyond Avengers: Endgame through the Disney+ series Loki. The show explores his identity, alternate timelines, and relationship with the TVA. It also expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s treatment of time, variants, and branching realities, giving this version of Loki an entirely different future.

What Loki’s Ending Means

Loki’s Endgame escape does not erase his original death. Instead, it creates another version of the character whose journey unfolds separately. His escape ultimately becomes a major turning point, connecting Avengers: Endgame with the wider multiverse storyline explored in subsequent Marvel projects.
