AI Adoption Surges Worldwide: UAE, Singapore Lead as South Korea Posts Fastest Growth

AI Adoption is Accelerating

Generative AI use continues to expand worldwide. Microsoft estimates that 18.8% of the global working-age population used a generative AI product in June 2026, up from the previous quarter. Adoption increased across almost every economy, although major differences remain between countries and regions in access and usage.

UAE Leads Global Adoption

The United Arab Emirates remains the country with the highest AI diffusion rate. Microsoft measured usage among 73.3% of its working-age population in June 2026. Strong digital infrastructure, government initiatives and widespread access to technology have helped position the UAE at the top of the global adoption rankings.

Singapore Remains a Major Hub

Singapore recorded a 64.3% AI diffusion rate in June 2026, placing it second globally. The country has consistently ranked among the strongest AI-adopting markets. Its digital infrastructure, technology ecosystem and high internet penetration provide favourable conditions for generative AI tools to become part of everyday consumer and workplace activities.

South Korea is Growing Fast

South Korea recorded the largest quarterly increase in Microsoft’s June 2026 data, gaining 3.5 percentage points. The country has also emerged as a fast-growing AI market, supported by workplace adoption, government initiatives and consumer-focused AI applications. Its growth highlights how local language capabilities can influence AI adoption.

Japan and Türkiye See Rapid Growth

OECD data tracking generative AI chatbot usage found that Japan and Türkiye recorded the highest growth during 2025, with usage rates more than doubling. Singapore also saw a major increase, rising from 36% to 63% of its population using AI chatbots. These figures use a different methodology from Microsoft’s diffusion measure.

Global AI Adoption Gap

AI adoption remains uneven between developed and developing economies. Microsoft estimates that 28.8% of the working-age population in the Global North used generative AI in June 2026, compared with 16.2% in the Global South. Infrastructure, connectivity, skills and language accessibility remain important barriers to wider adoption.

The global AI race is increasingly about adoption, not only building advanced models. Countries with strong digital foundations are seeing faster usage, while others face infrastructure and skills gaps. Different datasets measure AI use differently, so country comparisons should be viewed as indicators rather than precise measures of total adoption.
