MediaTek has pushed its top phone chip into a new class with the Dimensity 9600 Pro. The chip uses TSMC’s 2nm process, a 2+3+3 all-big-core CPU, a dual-NPU design, LPDDR6 memory, and UFS 5.0 storage. MediaTek claims a 61% cut in multi-core power use, up to 17% higher single-core performance, and up to 15% higher multi-core performance.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro marks MediaTek’s first mobile chip on a 2nm process. Its CPU has two Arm C2-Ultra cores at up to 4.55GHz, three Arm C2-Pro cores at 4.35GHz, and three Arm C2-Pro cores at 3.1GHz. MediaTek calls this a fourth-generation all-big-core design.
The CPU also has a 21% larger L2 cache system. MediaTek lists 17% faster single-core work with 37% better power efficiency, plus 15% faster multi-core work with 61% better power efficiency. The company measured these results in its own lab tests, so retail phones need separate tests.
The chip has two neural processors, or NPUs. The NPU 1090 handles heavy on-device AI tasks, while the Super Efficient NPU 2.0 handles low-power AI work in the background.
MediaTek claims 51% higher large language model prefill performance and 55% higher token generation per watt. The chip can support on-device models with up to 30 billion parameters. A new compression engine can reduce the memory footprint of large language models, while support for Mixture of Experts models adds another path for local AI work.
The Super Efficient NPU 2.0 cuts power use for always-on AI by 40%, MediaTek says. That matters for AI assistants that need constant access to phone data, apps, and sensors.
The 9600 Pro brings first-wave support for LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. MediaTek says UFS 5.0 can deliver twice the read and write speed of the previous generation, while LPDDR6 can raise effective memory bandwidth by 33% at the same frequency. A larger 34.5MB cache also sits inside the platform.

The new G2-Ultra NX GPU offers up to 27% higher peak GPU performance, 24% lower power use at peak performance, and up to 18% faster ray-trace performance. The chip can support native gameplay above 185fps.
MediaTek also links the GPU with the NPU through its Neural Graphics Architecture. That setup can help with neural graphics and super-resolution tasks, which may shift some graphics work toward AI hardware.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses the Imagiq 1290 image signal processor, or ISP, with an AI Imaging Fusion Architecture. The system supports 60fps subject focus at 60fps, 4K240 slow-motion video, 4K60 AI True Color Tone, 4K120 cinematic log, and 17EV imaging.
The chip also supports 4K live photo with full depth of field, H.266 hardware video decode, and MV-HEVC support for spatial video. These features give phone makers more room for advanced camera modes without cloud services.
MediaTek says the first Dimensity 9600 Pro phones will arrive this quarter. Reuters reports that Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo rank among the phone makers that have worked with MediaTek. OPPO has also confirmed a Find X10 Pro Max with the new chip for a September 22 China launch.
