XRP recently pushed its market capitalization back above USD 100 billion after gaining more than 8% in 24 hours, according to CoinGecko data. The Ripple-linked cryptocurrency also tested resistance near USD 1.65 as trading activity strengthened. At the same time, US spot XRP ETF inflows increased, while the XRP Ledger moved closer to activating a new account permission feature.

The latest move places XRP among the stronger performers in the broader crypto market. Arbitrum, Flare, and Zcash also recorded notable gains during the same market advance.

Despite reclaiming the USD 100 billion valuation, XRP remains more than 55% below its record high from nearly a year ago. The gap shows how far the token remains from its previous peak despite its latest recovery.

Trader Peter Brandt recently projected that XRP could eventually reach USD 5.40. Meanwhile, Coinbase data has pointed to heightened volatility expectations around the cryptocurrency.

XRP ETF Inflows and Whale Activity Accelerate

US spot XRP ETFs recorded USD 13.03 million in net inflows on September 22, according to CoinGlass data. This followed zero net inflows one day earlier. Cumulative net inflows have now reached about USD 936.66 million. One fund accounted for approximately USD 12.47 million of the September 22 total.

That amount represented about 95.7% of the day's net buying. Therefore, a single product drove most of the latest ETF demand.

On-chain activity also increased as XRP moved higher. Santiment recorded 1,917 transactions worth at least USD 100,000 on Tuesday. The XRP Ledger also added 3,647 new wallets during the same period. Santiment reported that the number of large transactions reached its highest level in one month.

Notably, the spike in high-value transfers occurred while XRP was advancing rather than falling sharply. The timing separates the latest activity from large transfers that sometimes appear during market selloffs.

XRPL Permission Upgrade Nears October Activation

PermissionDelegationV1_1 entered a 14-day activation countdown on September 21 after 29 of the XRP Ledger's 35 trusted validators supported it. The amendment could activate on October 5 at 11:18 UTC. Support must remain at or above the required 80% threshold throughout the countdown.

At least 28 validators must continue backing the amendment. If support drops below that level, the activation clock will reset. The feature would allow one XRP Ledger account to grant another account limited authority without surrendering control of its main keys.

For example, a stablecoin issuer could authorize an online compliance system to approve customers who can hold its token. The issuer could still keep its primary account keys offline.

Another operations account could receive permission to process payments. It would not gain authority to change account keys or transfer permissions to another party. Each delegated account can receive as many as 10 permissions. The main account can later modify or revoke those permissions.

This structure separates operational duties in a way similar to traditional banking systems, where payment, compliance, and other functions operate under different controls.

Revised Upgrade Follows Earlier Security Flaw

PermissionDelegationV1_1 represents the XRP Ledger's second attempt to introduce delegated account permissions. The first version contained a flaw that could have allowed an attacker to force another account to pay transaction fees without providing a valid signature.

Repeated transactions containing deliberately high fees could have reduced the victim's XRP balance.

The issue resulted from the order in which the software processed transactions. The system checked account permissions before confirming whether the transaction carried a valid signature.

Some failed transactions could still trigger fees before the system identified the invalid signature. A community tester discovered the flaw on September 15, 2025, while testing the feature outside the XRP Ledger main network.

Validators were then advised to reject the amendment. As a result, the original version never reached activation. The revised PermissionDelegationV1_1 proposal has now secured enough validator backing to begin its activation countdown, although continued support remains necessary until October 5.
