Xiaomi has introduced HyperOS 4 in China, opening beta access to selected flagship phones and tablets from August 14. The software brings a new glass-style interface, expanded controls and deeper artificial intelligence features.
The company plans two more beta phases on August 27 and September 17. Xiaomi has not announced a global release date. Therefore, the published schedule applies only to users in China.
The beta allows Xiaomi to collect user feedback before stable rollout. Access may depend on registration, device region and available testing slots.
HyperOS 4 uses a visual system that Xiaomi calls ‘Soft Light Glass.’ Translucent panels, lighting effects and simulated refraction appear across menus, widgets, folders and quick settings. The approach resembles Apple’s Liquid Glass design, although Xiaomi has adapted it for its own interface.
Personalisation tools now let users resize lock-screen clocks and arrange notifications in stacks. They can also resize folders and group widgets. Moreover, the Integrated Device Centre offers a revised layout and one-tap switching between connected homes.
Xiaomi has adjusted how apps respond when users change screen orientation. Apps can move between portrait and landscape layouts more smoothly. Floating windows also rotate to follow the active app. Several first-party apps receive revised animations, controls and blur effects.
Xiaomi says HyperOS 4 uses less memory than HyperOS 3 and includes a redesigned app runtime. In its internal tests, opening 30 apps after extended use took 17.5% less time. The company also recorded 28.9% fewer frame drops during long sessions.
Other claimed improvements include up to 90% faster thumbnail scrolling in the Gallery app. Xiaomi reports that camera HDR processing fell from 310 milliseconds to 240 milliseconds. Cold camera starts also became 200 milliseconds shorter, while video playback produced fewer dropped frames.
The system uses AI to estimate which resources a user may need next. It then loads those resources into RAM before an action. Since these figures come from Xiaomi’s tests, results may vary by device, settings and usage.
Super AI Assistant 2.0 runs on Xiaomi’s in-house MiMo large language model. It can transcribe speech, organise notes, locate photos and prepare travel plans. The assistant can also control compatible smart-home devices and connected vehicles.
Recorder gains summaries, structured outlines and automatic removal of silent sections. AI Voice Notes can combine images with notes and extract tasks. Meanwhile, the Inspiration Ball lets users select text or images for actions such as navigation and product searches.
The August 14 group includes the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and 17 Ultra. It also covers the 17 Ultra Leica Edition, Redmi K90, K90 Pro Max, K90 Pro Max Champion Edition, Xiaomi Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro.
The August 27 phase covers the Xiaomi 17 Max, 17T Pro, 17T, 15 Ultra and 15 Ultra Dual Satellite Edition. The 15S Pro, 15 Pro, 15, Redmi K90 Max, K90 Ultra and Redmi K Pad 2 join this group.
Testing expands on September 17 to the Redmi K100 Pro Max, K100 Pro, K80 Pro, K80 Ultra and K80. Xiaomi Mix Flip 2, Pad 7 Ultra and Pad 7S Pro 12.5 complete the announced list. Xiaomi has not provided timing for a stable build or wider international availability.
