WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new cross-platform feature that will let users access media from their Instagram and Facebook accounts directly when sharing content in chats or posting Status updates. The feature is being rolled out to some beta testers and is designed to make it easier to move content between Meta’s platforms without saving and uploading files separately.
The update builds on WhatsApp’s integration with Meta’s Accounts Center, which was introduced to provide optional connections between WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.
With the new option, users can reportedly select stories, posts and Reels from their Instagram and Facebook accounts while using WhatsApp. This could reduce the number of steps required to share content that is already available on another Meta platform.
The feature is expected to work for both individual and group chats and WhatsApp Status updates. Instead of downloading a photo or video from Instagram or Facebook and then attaching it manually, users will be able to access eligible media through the new cross-platform connection.
The functionality is currently rolling out gradually, meaning it may not immediately appear for every WhatsApp user.
Users will need to connect their WhatsApp account to Meta’s Accounts Center to use the feature, according to the reported rollout. Accounts Center is designed to manage connected experiences across Meta services, although linking WhatsApp remains optional.
Meta previously said the integration could allow users to reshare WhatsApp Status updates to Instagram Stories or Facebook, as well as simplify account-related experiences across its platforms. The company also said personal WhatsApp messages and calls remain protected by end-to-end encryption.

The latest development is part of a wider push by Meta to make its apps work more closely together. WhatsApp has introduced several cross-platform features in recent months, including easier chat transfers between Android and iOS and the ability to manage two accounts on an iPhone.
The company has also been adding new tools for photos, stickers, and message composition inside WhatsApp. The latest Instagram and Facebook media integration could further simplify content sharing for users who regularly switch between Meta’s platforms.
As the rollout continues, availability is expected to expand beyond the initial group of beta testers. The timing for a full release to all users has not been specified.
