Meta has introduced WhatsApp Plus, an optional subscription service priced at Rs. 79 per month in India, offering users additional customization features without affecting the free version of the app. The rollout marks WhatsApp's first premium subscription aimed at users seeking a more personalized messaging experience.
Without a subscription, users will still be able to use all the basic features offered by WhatsApp, including messages, voice and video calls, and end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp Plus package includes 18 exclusive color themes, 14 customized app icons, unique ringtones for notifications, sticker packs, and pinning of up to 20 chats. There are also improved tools to organize chats and access to certain features earlier than other users as Meta progressively rolls out its premium package.
To activate this function, users have to go to Settings > Subscriptions on WhatsApp and make the payment. This function is rolling out in stages, and not all users may have access to it. However, industry experts are convinced that it is Meta’s first move towards creating a premium ecosystem by offering WhatsApp for free.
