Tactical shooter WARDOGS has launched in Steam Early Access, giving PC gamers their first real taste of its large-scale multiplayer battles. Made by studio Bulkhead, the game supports matches with up to 100 players and is set to land on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X&S in 2028.

A New Take on Team Shooters

Unlike most team-based shooters that pit two sides against each other, WARDOGS puts three teams into every match, all fighting to hold a central objective. Battles take place in large, destructible maps based on the industrial mountains of Eastern Europe. Vehicles, buildings, and environmental damage all play a part in how each fight plays out.

The game also brings in a cash-based reward system meant to push players toward teamwork. Actions in battle earn players money, which they can then use to help their team. Adding to the chaos, proximity voice chat lets players from different teams talk to each other mid-match, since anyone nearby can hear.

Strong Numbers Before Launch

The Early Access release comes on the back of a solid closed beta run. Bulkhead says the game pulled in close to half a million unique players during its August test phase. Its last test before launch saw more than 245,000 people playing at once on Steam. The studio has also confirmed that WARDOGS has already crossed one million copies sold.

Right now, WARDOGS is available on Steam for USD 39.99 in the US. Bulkhead expects the Early Access phase to run for one to two years, during which it plans to roll out new maps, weapons, vehicles, and progression systems.

No exact release date has been shared yet for the console versions, and it's still unclear whether cross-platform play between PC and consoles will be supported. Until then, Xbox and PlayStation players can add the game to their wishlist, while PC players can dive in right away.

With a strong beta turnout and over a million sales already, WARDOGS looks set to build a solid player base well before it reaches consoles in 2028.
