In a significant move for artificial intelligence, US President Donald Trump directed the federal government to use ‘Super Intelligence’ instead of ‘artificial intelligence’ in official communications.
The move follows the President’s meeting with several of the biggest names in the technology industry at the White House on Tuesday. The meeting brought together leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, NVIDIA, Meta, Google, and other companies.
A voluntary AI safety pact was signed, expanding support for more data centers and a push to replace ‘artificial intelligence’ with ‘Super Intelligence’ or ‘SI’ in US government communications.
Trump said technology companies had signed a ‘morally binding’ agreement focused on AI safety, describing it as a ‘form of protection’ against potential AI risks.
The White House Accord on Super Intelligence: Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities is voluntary and not legally enforceable. Six executives signed the agreement: Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, xAI CEO Elon Musk, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.
Under the agreement, companies will establish safeguards for their AI systems, monitor model capabilities and address risks involving cybersecurity, biosecurity and chemical threats. They will also work with ‘independent auditors’ to assess their systems and ensure AI platforms do not ‘hack or access technical systems in unintended ways’.
Trump called the agreement ‘almost like a constitution, in a way,’ adding that ‘the biggest people in the world signed that, and I signed it as president.’ He also said he would create a board to oversee AI safety but did not reveal its members.

Trump reiterated his support for expanding data centers, which provide the computing power required to run AI systems. The projects have faced concerns over electricity consumption and their impact on local communities.
Trump said technology companies would make ‘massive contributions to communities’ to address these concerns. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang backed the expansion, saying data centers should be called ‘super intelligence factories’ and arguing that they are ‘reindustrializing the United States’ and creating jobs.

Trump previously criticized the word ‘artificial,’ saying it made the technology ‘sound fake.’ Some experts, however, noted that superintelligence generally refers to AI systems more advanced than current technology.
