CD Projekt Red made another staff cut linked to Project Sirius, its upcoming multiplayer game set in The Witcher universe. The studio remained silent about the project’s development, though reports suggested that in recent years, the game faced multiple hurdles. Earlier this year, CD Projekt Red hired Kwan Perng, a writer who worked on Destiny 2: The Final Shape, as a lead writer for the project, and again the project faced a roadblock.
A total of 18 developers have been affected. While the company confirmed that four staff members in its Boston office and five in Warsaw were laid off, nine were transferred to other projects. However, Project Sirius is still in development and has not been canceled.
Project Sirius was first announced in 2022 and is being developed with The Molasses Flood. The game is expected to mix a single-player story with cooperative multiplayer. However, details remain scarce. The project also went through a major restart in 2023, which led to 29 layoffs at the time.
The latest cuts come at an interesting time for Project Sirius. Before the latest changes, 83 people were working on Project Sirius as of April 2026. The new cuts therefore affect a sizeable part of the team, although the project itself remains active.
Project Sirius has had a rough road since its announcement. The 2023 restart already raised questions about its direction. Now, another team change is likely to make fans wonder how far development has really come.
At the same time, the cuts do not mean the game is being canceled. CD Projekt Red says the changes reflect what the project needs at this stage. For now, fans will have to wait for a proper reveal. With The Witcher 4 taking much of the spotlight, Project Sirius still has plenty to prove before it can win players over.
