Microsoft is reportedly sticking with Steam as a key part of its PC gaming plans. Previously, reports mentioned that Xbox would stop releasing games on Steam. However, a recent report contradicted that Microsoft has no such plan at this point. There would be some changes, but Xbox games won’t leave Steam.
Reportedly, Battle.net, which used to be exclusive to Blizzard games, would be opening up to third-party developers. Now it includes Activision titles like Call of Duty, Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2, and Avowed. In the future, it will be available to more third-party developers. Finally, the report has mentioned that Microsoft continues to invest heavily in the PC app.
Many game companies have changed their plans in recent years. EA tried to focus on its own launcher but later brought its games back to Steam. Ubisoft also returned many of its biggest games to Steam after keeping them away for years.
Blizzard has followed a similar path, while Battle.net is still important, several Blizzard games are now available on Steam. These moves show that players like more choices. Microsoft appears to be taking the same approach instead of locking games to one platform.
