WorkOnGrid has raised Rs. 22.5 crore to scale AI-driven solutions and strengthen its presence in the global market. The Bengaluru-based AI startup is building a unified layer to help power, water, and gas companies manage rising complexity and enable real-time decision-making.

Details of the Funding Round

WorkOnGrid has raised Rs 22.5 crore in a funding round led by Transition VC, with participation from Indian Angel Network (IAN). With this, the company has raised a total of Rs 28.5 crore in funding to date.

Raiyaan Shingati, Co-founder and Managing Partner at Transition VC, said, "We invested in WorkOnGrid because it represents a fundamental shift in how utilities operate. Popularly known by their customers as 'DiscomGPT,' its agentic intelligence layer turns fragmented utility data into a seamless, closed-loop system, empowering teams to move from manual processes to real-time, automated decision-making across metering, billing, and field operations."

How the Funds Will Be Used

The fresh capital will be used to expand WorkOnGrid’s global go‑to‑market activities, improve its artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, and develop international infrastructure to support wider deployment, according to a company statement.

"This funding round marks a pivotal step in our mission to modernize the last mile of critical infrastructure. By digitizing manual operations and embedding AI-native intelligence into utility workflows, we are enabling providers to shift from reactive maintenance to predictive reliability, ensuring that essential services remain resilient and future-ready," said WorkOnGrid CEO Udit Poddar.

What WorkOnGrid does

WorkOnGrid was founded by Udit Poddar, Shreyansh Jain, and Aayush Agrawal as a data consulting company for SMEs in 2017. Later, the company became a provider of utility data warehousing and analytics platforms. Its platform collects and analyses data from systems such as smart meters, field devices, and operational software used by electricity, water, and gas utilities. “The goal is to turn this data into useful insights so companies can run their networks more efficiently,” according to the company statement.

Its AI framework identified high-risk distribution transformers that could generate significant annual cost savings by avoiding failures. The platform has also proven effective in reducing manual analysis efforts for utility operators and improving operational efficiency.

Since 2021, WorkOnGrid has shifted focus from consulting for small businesses to working with over 20 utility service providers worldwide. Their revenue jumped from Rs. 69.7 lakh in FY2021 to Rs. 7.23 crore in FY2025.

India’s Growing AI Startup Ecosystem

India's AI startup ecosystem is experiencing rapid growth, which ranks third globally. At least 6,200 startups and more than 140 GenAI firms have secured around $1.5 billion in funding since 2020. The market is projected to reach $126 billion by 2030.

According to NASSCOM’s India Generative AI Startup Landscape 2025 report, the country’s generative AI startup ecosystem has surged over three times in scale. India’s digital infrastructure push (such as the IndiaAI Mission) and incentives for AI adoption are helping fuel this momentum.
